There are 3-sided accident prevention grills which raise them- selves automatically to a height of approx. 1 m behind the furnace and inclined toward the front at each side by means of counterbalance weights. A later con- struction works without counterbalance weights, and instead uses pre-loaded springs, which allow a maximum movement of 1.2 m.
